Rescue center of more than 450 hectares, located 30 km from the city of Iquitos in the Amazon jungle of Peru. It was created for the protection and preservation of monkeys. The purpose of this center is to rescue, rehabilitate and release the monkeys to their natural habitat.

Since 1997, the rescue center has been dedicated to caring for monkeys that have been victims of illegal animal trafficking. It promotes the freedom of animals, which should not be trapped in cages or be victims of illegal trade. Almost all the monkeys on the island are rescued. Yes, they are habituated to humans, and some may take longer to reintegrate, and others may need to remain in the rescue center. The installation is meant to remind people that wildlife must be respected, and they must continue in their natural habitat.

Important: The monkeys are free, and some might come close. In that case, you can interact with them, but we do not encourage the monkeys’ contact with people.

It is forbidden to feed them and the use of repellents and sunscreens.

Climate:

Hot, humid, and rainy, with an average annual minimum temperature of 22 °C and a maximum of 32 °C, exceptionally varying to a minimum of 17 °C some days between June and July, and a maximum of 36 °C between October and January.

Itinerary

08:00 am Pick up from your accommodation in Iquitos and transfer to the port of embarkation.

Departure by fast motorboat to continue the journey for 45 minutes to the Monkeys rescue center. Upon arrival there will be a 20-minute walk through the Amazon jungle to the center. Along the way there is an opportunity to observe monkeys in the trees or walking around, many of them are already used to seeing humans.

Arrival at the rescue center where you will learn about the purpose of the project and the work they have been doing with the monkeys. The tour is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, where you will learn everything about the rescue and release project. At the same time, you will be able to appreciate more than 7 species of monkeys in their natural habitat.
