Climate

The climate in the area is both rainy and dry. From December to April, there is rainfall and snow in the higher altitude areas, with daytime temperatures ranging from 16°C to 18°C. From May to November, daytime temperatures range between 17°C and 19°C. At night, temperatures drop to 0°C.

Itinerary

5:30 am. Early departure from your hotel and transfer to the train station in Ollantaytambo. We take a scenic two-hour train ride to Km 104, the starting point of the hike. After crossing the bridge over the Urubamba River, we will visit the Chachabamba ruins (altitude 2,050 m) and then begin a four-hour hike to the impressive archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna (2,680 m), where we will have lunch. Next, we continue for one hour to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) (2,730 m), from where we will get a spectacular view of Machu Picchu. Finally, we descend by bus to Aguas Calientes to check in at our accommodation and enjoy dinner (not included).

Overnight in the town of Machu Picchu.

Bus departure to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of approximately 2.5 hours. Afterward, you will have free time to explore on your own or climb Huayna Picchu (with a separate entrance ticket) for breathtaking views. At the end of the visit, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, a private transfer will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
