Discovering the Amazon rainforest

Immerse yourself in the heart of the Amazon River jungle, 140 kilometers upriver from Iquitos, in the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo reserve, near the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. This remote and unspoiled environment guarantees the observation of animals in their natural habitat. Although the jungle lacks internet access, it offers a unique connection with nature. You won’t find fishing boats, loggers or many tourists here; it is an intimate place, surrounded exclusively by pure nature. Yanayacu, a Quechua word meaning “black water,” describes the rivers of the region, which take on this hue from minerals washed down from the sierra mountains.

Climate:

The Amazon is characterized by a warm and humid climate, making it one of the rainiest regions in the world. Precipitation is concentrated between December and May. During the summer (December – March), warm and humid winds blowing from the southeast raise temperatures and cause intense rainfall.

Itinerary

Arrival before 09:00 hours. Reception and transfer by land from your hotel or the airport. At 9:30 a.m. departure by road and river towards the lodge. Excursion to the jungle to observe the enormous variety of flora. Observation of the Little Lion (Pygmy Monkey). Sunset at Lake Sapote. Night boat excursion to see alligators, birds and nocturnal mammals.

Excursion to swim in the Amazon River and watch pink and gray dolphins. Observation of Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic plant in the world. Observation of iguanas and piranha fishing. Authentic visit to San Juan de Yanayacu’s village. Night walk in search of huge tarantulas and frogs.

Boat excursion to Juanachi or Moena lake searching for different bird species and monkeys. Filling out your biodiversity checklist-card with your guide. At 1:00 pm depart from the lodge to the airport or hotel. Arrival at approximately 16:00 hours.
